A local court in Raipur has sentenced a 21-year-old youth to 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl on pretext of marriage on May 2019 in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district.
Special public prosecutor Nilesh Kumar Thakur said on Monday that the court of special judge (Atrocities) Vijay Kumar Hota has found the convict, guilty of raping a minor girl and sentenced him 10 years of jail term.
The convict has been identified as Keshav Yadav (21), resident of village in Gariband district.
On May 2019, the convict had abducted and raped the minor girl on the pretext of marriage.
The rape victim’s father had approached the police, following which the Police had registered an offence under IPC, POCSO Act and scheduled castes and tribes (prevention of atrocities) act and arrested him.
The special judge has sentenced the accused to 10 years RI under section 376 (2) (n) and section 6 of POCSO Act. All the conviction on the accused will run concurrently.
The judge also imposed penalty of Rs 500 each on the convict under sections IPC and POCSO Act and the convict will be subjected to two-month additional imprisonment on default of fine imposed on him.
