The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a village revenue official in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 4,000.

Anup Sinha, a Patwari posted in Pathakpur village, was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant, said ACB SP Pankaj Chandra.

The complainant Premsai had filed an application at the Patwari’s office seeking to enlist his agricultural land in government records for selling of his paddy under government’s paddy procurement programme, the officer said.

The Patwari allegedly demanded the bribe, failing which he said his application will not be approved.

After a complaint was made to the ACB, a trap was laid and Sinha was arrested while taking the bribe, the officer said.
