Raipur munaadi ।।

As many as five candidates on Monday pulled out their nominations from the fray, on the nomination withdrawal day for Marwahi (ST) assembly seat by-poll to be held next month in Chhattisgarh.

As per the reports, a total of eight candidates are now in the fray for the by-polls after the withdrawal of nomination papers.

Now, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dr Gambheer Singh, Congress candidate Dr Krishan Kumar Dhruw and six other candidates will be battling in the by-poll in the Scheduled Tribe (ST)-reserved Marwahi assembly seat.

After rejecting the nominations of ex-Marwahi legislator Amit Jogi and his wife Richa Jogi for Marwahi by-election following their caste certificate row, the nomination papers of 13 candidates found valid while nominations of six candidates were rejected in the scrutiny on Saturday.

Marwahi (ST) constituency fell vacant following the demise of first chief minister of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi in May this year.

Ajit Jogi had won the 2018 assembly poll from Marwahi but he passed away on May 29, 2020. Marwahi seat is a Jogi family bastion since the state’s formation in 2000.
