A four years-old boy was killed while a dozen people were injured, when a recklessly over speeding car driven by a former Congress Mayor’s son ran over them in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district.
The incident occurred late Monday night in Malgaon area under Kotwali Police Station limits of Gariyaband, police said.
Romit Rathore son of ex-Mayor Mamta Rathore had an argument with the victims on a road side in Malgaon village on Monday late night while people were celebrating Dussehra festival, Superintendent of Police Gariaband Bhojraj Patel said adding the verbal spat turned into minor scuffle.
Enraged over the dispute, Romit Rathore and his friend Saurabh Kutare drove away their car for some distance and then came back speedily and ran the car over the crowd. After the incident both escaped from the crime scene in the car, the SP said.
“A four-year-old boy died in the incident while about 12 people were injured. The matter was reported to police and police have arrested both of them,” the SP added.
They were arrested from a forested patch of the district where they were trying to hide in the midnight hours, the SP said.
The accused have confessed of crime, the SP added.
The Vitara Brezza car used in the incident was also recovered, the SP.
The accused Romit Rathore and Saurabh Kutare have been booked under Sections 302, 307 and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), the SP further said.
