Two accused nabbed with 1005 kg cannabis valued at Rs 2 core in Chhattisgarh, Police seized Rs 9000 in cash, a goods carriage vehicle, two mobiles

In a major haul, Chhattisgarh Police on Monday seized 1005 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 2.01 crore and arrested two persons in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district who were transporting it from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh.

Mahasamund Superintendent of Police Prafull Kumar Thakur said that the arrested men were the driver Ashok Kumar Sahu (27) and his cleaner-assistant Ashok Kumar Dehuri (26), both residents of Odisha.

The action was taken based on a tip that the contraband was being transported to Madhya Pradesh from Odisha via the Mahasamund National Highway NH-53, Thakur said.

Police intercepted a goods carriage (CG-17, H-2027) during checking near Saraipali village in the Singhoda police station limits, he added.

The police seized 990 packets of cannabis, each weighing 1.01 kg, packed in 33 gunny bags from the truck.

A mobile phone, Rs 9,000 in cash and a goods carriage were also seized.
